blog post #1!
Hi! My name is Emmy Jones---though technically it's Emily, named after Emily Bronte. My mom originally wanted to name me Bronte, but thought people would find it too obscure; so naturally, she went with the most popular name of 2004 instead. Unlike some people, I don't mind my name, but to be fair, I think about names quite a bit more than any other nineteen-year-old would---after all, I'm usually keeping lists of names for future book characters. Speaking of book, I'm writing my own, in a hope to achieve one of my biggest dreams, which is being an author. On the more fun side of things, I've still got enough to talk about: I love Taylor Swift, all sorts of movies, and especially TV shows; my ultimate favorites have to be Succession or Breaking Bad.
My prior experience using technology in an educational setting is probably what everyone else is going to write about, which for me was online school during COVID-19. I don't think anyone looks back a whole lot on the pandemic anymore, but during that time period, online school was my daily life. Because of this, I'm pretty handy with most things, but it was definitely still a struggle to adjust to. Honestly, I think that that's my biggest fear right now when it comes to this class---I have a busy work schedule and I often leave things on the wayside.
My personal learning network is like a spiderweb---everything is sort of interconnected in a way that just makes sense to me, and I really try and consistently support myself with everything I can. For the most part, my sorority, Chi Omega, helps me a lot with accountability when it comes to school, as we have specialized study rooms and sisterhood support geared towards academics. We have a saying---SBSO, or Scholarship Over Social Obligation---that helps keep us on track when it comes to grades. Otherwise, I think utilizing office hours and having professional relationships with professors often helps with having good communication, which leads to less surprise when it comes to grades and everything else that comes along with it. This year, I'm really doing my best to keep myself steady when it comes to school. Ultimately, I'm manifesting a great year!
